Toward a Firewise Starbright Acres

Greetings neighbors!

Thank you to all who filled out the form indicating your interest in the Starbright Acres neighborhood becoming a Firewise Community!

We had a first organizing meeting this week (Cyrus and Andi, Kris and Jim, Tart and Sandy, Bruce, Nadine and Tom, Chris, Marta and myself) met this week and we have some information to share now and in the coming weeks and months as well.

First, we agreed that our priorities are to: 1) educate and organize homeowners living in direct relation to the Polaris Drive circle, 2) become a Firewise Community, 3) create a buddy system for evacuation time 4) assess escape routes, 5) gain access to green bins to deposit yard waste.

Second, a few of us have been going door-to-door talking to neighbors, encouraging them to sign up. Of approximately 100 homeowners who live on Polaris Drive and side streets, only 27 of us have filled out the form. So, please talk to your neighbors, ask if they’ve heard about what we’re doing. Here is a copy of the flyer we’ve been handing out. We encourage you to print it and share it with your neighbors. Here is the link to the form to sign up. You’re welcome to email or text that to neighbors too.

Third, and perhaps most important – we’re organizing a community-wide gathering at Cyrus and Andi’s house (driveway actually) on Sunday, June 22 at 4pm. Please save the date and join us. Part of this process is to organize and become more fire-aware and safe, but it’s also for us to get to know each other (if we don’t already) and know who might need support when it’s time to evacuate.

I look forward to seeing you on the circle! If you don’t know me, I’m usually walking my dog, Lima in the mornings.
